Inner Landscapes
The mountain lies before the eyes, yet meaning resides in the heart;
Is what we see merely scenery, or has it long mirrored our inner world?
Organized by Independent & Image Art Space, Inner Landscapes will be held from September 20 to October 20, 2025, bringing together works by 19 artists from around the globe. This exhibition explores the diverse and contemporary expressions of the theme “inner landscape” through a rich variety of artistic perspectives.
Centered on the idea of the “inner landscape,” the exhibition weaves together photography, painting, collage, digital art, and more, forming a visual field that transcends cultures and media. The title Inner Landscapes (originally “Kan Shan Hai Shi Shan,” or Seeing the Mountain is Still Seeing the Mountain) draws from Eastern philosophical thought, alluding to the cognitive transformation from clarity, through confusion, to a return to simplicity. It symbolizes the interplay between external phenomena and internal states of mind.
Here, the “inner landscape” is not a visible terrain of nature, but a spiritual geography shaped by emotion, memory, and thought. Through personalized visual languages, the participating artists traverse between figuration and abstraction, capturing subtle shifts in individual emotion, psychological experience, and the subconscious. Their works go beyond representing the external world—they manifest projections of the inner self, rendering visible what is often unseen.
Inner Landscapes is not merely a visual art exhibition; it is a philosophical inquiry into self, perception, and being. Between reality and imagination, spirit and matter, the viewer is invited into a contemplative journey—one that rediscovers the possible co-existence between the soul and nature, between the individual and the world.
