Climate change is one of the motivation behind my work. As we are about to face changes of a magnitude like there hasn’t been in the past 10,000’s or even 100,000’s years, my work is a personal manifesto for sustainable travel and a tribute to our planet’s fleeting wonders. It offers an alternative to humanity’s relentless pursuit of exotic places, closer to home, while preserving memories of what may soon change irrevocably.

My approach to photography is non-intellectual and very intuitive. I look for aesthetic gratification or catching the poetry in the moment. One could call it soul-photography, and taking care of one’s soul is very important. I often take photos when I am wandering around in cities, hiking or cross-country skiing, adding a dimension of seeking inner-tranquility and capturing the emotions yielded by contemplating the scenery. There has also been a mental healing aspect to joining both outdoor activities and my practice of photography. Taking photographs has always put me in a remote and disconnected mental space, that is thrilling and enjoyable. All my attention is focused on creating the image and this is somehow very relaxing for the mind. Over the recent years, I have been aiming at having a more structured approach, by selecting themes over a longer time-span. There Is still more to do here. More often than not, it is by looking back that I find a meaning at the photographs I have taken and to the themes I have explored. Otherwise, it feels more like I am navigating on uncharted waters, with no real sense of direction. This gives me a sense of freedom that is quite exhilarating.
