Lei Ao

Ao Lei’s work transforms advanced physics into poetic visual experiences. Drawing on quantum field theory, spin dynamics, and soliton behavior, his practice uses real-time GPU simulations, custom algorithms, and electromagnetic experiments to reveal phenomena usually hidden from perception. Rather than illustrating science, he builds speculative instruments that reframe it.
Merging scientific rigor with aesthetic intuition, Lei’s pieces invite viewers into a liminal space where meaning emerges not from clarity, but from resonance.

Ao Lei is a London-based computational artist. His work explores the intersection of quantum physics, the history of science, and surrealism, using real-time GPU computation and experimental apparatus to visualize unseen physical phenomena and reframe narratives of scientific progress. Balancing precision and absurdity, he constructs fictional scientific instruments and mathematical models that challenge perceptions of reality and knowledge systems.
