Li Xinyun

This work explores the relationship between humans and nature through the lens of dwelling. Evolving from nature, humans possess an innate instinct to live within it. The buildings now contribute significantly to environmental degradation, further alienating us from the natural world. Earthbound seeks to reimagine a form of dwelling that is more primal and instinctual, one that meets the needs of contemporary living while drawing from and returning to nature.
This work reflects on the condition of ordinary people’s lives in the present day. In a world of relentless progress and constant change, people are driven by the demands of survival, numbly burning through their lives within the constraints of steel and concrete. Like flickering lights, they glow, dimly and brightly, illuminating the layers of buildings that seem to consume them.
